Zermatt, Switzerland - Perathoner Architects

Centrally located in the sophisticated and traditional Zermatt, in close proximity to the Gornergratbahn and the valley station of the Sunnegga funicular, the Hotel Mama is situated with a view of the world-famous Matterhorn. Opened in 1978 as the Hotel Admiral and family-owned since then, the hotel was expanded and thoroughly renovated in 2019 following a generational change in management, ensuring that it continues to meet the high expectations of its international clients.

On the upper floors, the guest rooms were reorganized with a view to providing the greatest possible comfort with maximum flexibility, so that cozy single rooms can be combined with double rooms to create spacious suites. A special concern of the building owners were generous balconies, on which one can enjoy an original Swiss cheese fondue with view of the Matterhorn. An absolute highlight are the wellness suites on the top floor, each of which has a private sauna as well as a roof terrace with an automatically opening glass roof and whirlpool.

The overall architectural design concept, from the characteristic design language of the dark wood facade, to the design of the floor plans and the detail-loving interior design, to the selection of building materials, colors and fabrics, originated from the South Tyrolean architectural studio Perathoner Architects - the architects placed the utmost importance on the use of high-quality materials and fabrics in the interior design, which come together to form a timeless design concept.

Perathoner Architects' attention to detail is evident throughout the project, this is clearly visible on the facades as well as the interior. The fabric coverings in the dressing rooms, for example, quote the typical Swiss snowflake silhouettes without merely following a trend or appearing kitschy. The result is something to be proud of - a timeless, cozy hotel in Zermatt. As the saying goes: Mom is the best!
