The third generation family-run Hotel Granbaita is located in the center of Selva di Val Gardena, surrounded by the impressive peaks of the South Tyrolean Dolomites. These are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and have been a popular vacation destination for international holidaymakers for decades, both in summer and winter.
Since its construction in the 1960s, the house has already experienced countless structural extensions, modernizations and restructurings, so that in 2019 it was time to give the main house with reception, bar and dining room, as well as the wellness area a uniform and architecturally contemporary appearance as part of a core renovation.
For this purpose, the existing balconies and wooden cladding, the roof and a glass conservatory were demolished and renewed. The urban connection between the main building and the extension facing downhill is now created by an elegantly curved, single-story structure that houses the reception area, bar, lounge, dining room and the new gourmet area. With its floor-to-ceiling glazing and the characteristic wooden cladding of the attic, the extension becomes the new architectural trademark of the entire Hotel Granbaita.
Its upgrading to a 5-star hotel reflects not only the simply elegant façade made of dark larch wood, but also the high-quality materials used for the architecturally timeless interior design, such as smoked oak wood, gray natural stone, and fabric covers typical of the location, which set colorful accents.
The atmospherically harmonious design concept is continued not only in the wellness area, which has been technically renovated to the latest standards, but also in the 35 luxurious rooms and suites, which were also redesigned as part of the restructuring.
